System Requirements to Use LaTAP

What are the system requirements to use LaTAP?

LaTAP users are recommended to use Internet Explorer 5.1 (or higher) or Mozilla Firefox 1.0.2 (or higher) as your browser to access the TAP site. Using a different browser to access this website may reduce site functionality. You should also disable any local settings, utilities or browser toolbars that auto-fill or auto-complete fields in your browser.

How to Register to Use LaTAP

How do I register to use LaTAP?

From the LDR home page click on the E-File & E-Pay link located on the bottom right-hand side of this homepage. Click the "Continue" button and on the next page click "Taxpayer Access Point" button located under the Business Tax Options. Or, follow this quick link to go directly to LaTAP: https://ldrtap.rev.louisiana.gov/. You will be asked to fill out some required information to register.

What information is required to use LaTAP?

For immediate access you must provide the following information:

  1. account number
  2. tax type
  3. zip code
  4. last payment amount
  5. email address

Once you provide all of this information you will receive an email with an authorization code that will be required to access LaTAP the first time. If you do not know your last payment amount and/or you do not provide an email address you will have to wait for the authorization code to arrive in the mail. I don't remember my last payment amount. Can I still use LaTAP?

Yes. You can complete all other required registration information and wait for an authorization code to be mailed. If you do not want to wait to recieve the authorization code in the mail you can call (225) 219-2203 to assist you with registration. Taxpayers that have never made a payment should call the same number for registration assistance.

I have multiple tax accounts. Can I access all of my tax accounts in LaTAP?

Once you have established a login id you can add access to all of the accounts associated with the same taxpayer to your LaTAP profile. (ex: other locations for the same taxpayer, or other tax types for the same taxpayer) After logging in select the “Add access to another account” link from the LaTAP home page. You will be required to verify the following information each time you add another account to your LaTAP profile:

  1. account number
  2. tax type
  3. zip code
  4. last payment amount
I followed the steps to register but have not received an authorization code yet. Where is it?

If you have a valid email address associated with your LaTAP profile, the code will be sent to your email. If you do not have an email listed, the code will be mailed to the address of the taxpayer associated with your profile. Some ISP's and spam filters have stopped LaTAP email from being delivered to the intended recipient. We are working on minimizing this. Login/Password Assistance for LaTAP Users

I'm using my taxpayer ID as my User ID, and it's telling me that I have an invalid username. How can this be if I used to login to the old system with it?

Each LaTAP user has a unique User ID to access LaTAP. If there is more than one LaTAP user for a single taxpayer, only one of these users can use the taxpayer ID for their user ID. If you used the old system, then your User ID may have been changed for use in LaTAP. For example if it was 9999999001, it may now be 9999999001-1. You should have received notification of this change, including the new User ID that will grant you TAP access. If you have not received this notification, please contact the Department of Revenue via email at Business Taxpayer Access Point(TAP) Inquiries or call (225) 219-2203.

I forgot my password. How do I get back into LaTAP?

Use the "Forgot your password?" link on the LaTAP welcome screen. Follow the online instructions to choose a new password. Upon completing these steps an email will be sent to your email address with a new authorization code that will be required the first time you use your new password. If you did not provide an email address when you registered for LaTAP the first time you will have to wait to receive the authorization code in the mail.

I'm worried that my password has been compromised. What should I do?

You can change your password at any time by logging into your account, clicking on the "My Profile" link to access your profile, and then clicking the "Change Password" button.

I couldn’t remember my password and after guessing wrong too many times, I’m locked out of my account. How do I get back into LaTAP?

You must contact the Department of Revenue at (225) 219-2203 to have your password reset.

I no longer want access my accounts in LaTAP. How do I cancel my access?

After logging into LaTAP, select the “my profile” link to open your LaTAP user profile. On this profile page, use the "Cancel My Online Access" button. If you change your mind later and decide that you want to access your accounts in LaTAP again, you will have to complete a new LaTAP registration and select a new login id.

What are the requirements for a LaTAP password?

  1. Your password must be at least 6 characters long and no longer than 30 characters.
  2. You can use letters, numbers, or other special characters such as @ # $ % & * !
  3. The password is case sensitive, so if you enter letters in upper case when you create your password, you must enter it the same way when you log in to your LaTAP account.

Adding Additional Accounts to My LaTAP Profile

I have multiple tax accounts. Can I access all of my tax accounts in LaTAP?

Once you have established a login id you can add access to all of the accounts associated with the same taxpayer to your LaTAP profile. (ex: other locations for the same taxpayer, or other tax types for the same taxpayer) After logging in select the “Add access to another account” link from the LaTAP home page. You will be required to verify the following information each time you add another account to your LaTAP profile:

  1. account number
  2. tax type
  3. zip code
  4. last payment amount

Changing Account Information in LaTAP

The address on my account is incorrect. Can I use LaTAP to change the address on my account?

You can change the mailing and location addresses of your tax-specific accounts in LaTAP. From the LaTAP home page select the tax-specific account that you wish to change and locate the names and addresses in the Account Summary section of the account page. Use the "Add" or "Edit" link to update your information. Note you must contact the department if you need to update your taxpayer level address that displays on the LaTAP homepage.

My bank information has changed or I'd like to use another source. How can I update this?

You may add new payment sources or change a source at any time in your LaTAP profile. After logging in and following the "My Profile" link to view your profile, you may view your payment sources at the bottom of the profile screen. To add a new payment source, click the "Add Source" link and enter the correct details. To change a source, click the desired source name from the list of payment sources to view the details for that source. The "Modify" button will allow you to change the details.

Filing and Amending Returns in LaTAP

How do I file a return in LaTAP?

Once logged into LaTAP select the tax-specific account at the bottom of the LaTAP home page. From the account page locate the “filing periods” section the below the green bar toward the bottom of the page. Locate the filing period that you wish to file and click on the “File Now” link to open the online return form. Once you have completed the return use the “next” button at the bottom right corner of the return. If your return is without error, you will be prompted to enter your password as your electronic signature before submitting the return. If you are not prompted to enter your password, review your return for line items that are shaded in red and/or any error messages displayed on the right side of each line item.

When must I file my return for it to be timely? Is there a grace period?

Returns must be filed by the filing period due date to avoid penalties and interest. There is no grace period.

Will I get a confirmation number if I file my return in LaTAP?

Yes. After submitting a return in LaTAP you will receive a confirmation number for your records.

How long will it take for my returns to be processed?

LaTAP returns are typically processed nightly on business days, so they are typically processed and completed by the next business day. Note that some returns require a manual review before they are posted to the account. If you submit a return that requires a manual review the “return status” will indicate that your return is “processing” in the filing period list.

Where do I key in the Schedules for my return?

If a schedule is required, you will see a underlined phrase telling you to "Click here for Schedule A" (schedule name could be different for different returns types) on the online return form. This link will open the schedule for your return.

How can I print a copy of my return?

Open the return you wish to print using the “view return” link on the filing period list of your account page. Use your browser print option to print your return. If your return includes any schedules, you will need to open the schedule using the “click here for Schedule” link in the return and then use the browser print option to print the schedule. Some returns and schedules do not fit on standard 8.5”x11” paper. To correct this issue you must change the printing options in your browser to landscape (11”x8.5”) so that all figures will display on the printed return. Improved printing capabilities are being developed so that these additional steps will not be required to print returns in the future.

I made a mistake on a previously filed return. Can I amend it in LaTAP?

Yes. Once logged into LaTAP select the tax-specific account at the bottom of the LaTAP home page. From the account page locate the “filing periods” section below the green bar toward the bottom of the page. Locate the filing period that you wish to file and click on the “View Return” link to open the previously filed return. You can amend the return by selecting the “Change” button toward the top-right side of the return. LaTAP will allow you to amend your previously filed returns, regardless of whether it was originally filed electronically or on paper.

I used the "Save and finish later" button to store my return in a draft format. How can I complete and file this return?

If you used the “Save and finish later” option, your return status will display as “stored” in the filing period list on the account page. Select the “stored” link to access the draft return. Use the “change” button located at the top right side of the return to open the return editing and filing. Once you have completed the return use the “next” button at the bottom right corner of the return. If your return is without error, you will be prompted to enter your password as your electronic signature before submitting the return. If you are not prompted to enter your password, review your return for any error messages displayed on the right side each line item.

Why isn’t the filing period that I need in the filing period list?

If you are trying to file an older period, use the “all available” link in the green filing period bar to display all filing periods for the last three years. You cannot file prescribed period returns in LaTAP. Also note that LaTAP will only allow you to file for the filing periods associated with the taxpayer’s registered filing frequency. If you are a quarterly filer trying to file more frequently (or vice versa) you should contact LDR to determine if you can change your filing frequency.

Making Payments in LaTAP

How do I make a payment in LaTAP?

If you want to make a payment toward a specific filing period, locate the filing period on the filing period list and select the “Pay Now” link. Alternatively, you can use the “Make a payment” link and select the “Return payment” option. Enter the payment effective date (date you want the funds to come out of your bank account), the payment amount, and select the bank source or enter a new bank source. Press submit button and verify your payment by entering your password.

If you want to make a payment toward the entire account balance, use the “Make a payment” link and select the "Bill" option. Enter the payment effective date (date you want the funds to come out of your bank account), the payment amount, and select the bank source or enter a new bank source. Press the submit button and verify your payment by entering your password. This type of payment will be applied to the oldest periods with a balance due first.

Can I save my bank account information in LaTAP so that I don’t have to enter each time I make a payment?

Yes. When making a payment you can choose to save a payment source by for future use. After entering the bank routing number and account number, check the box next to “save payment source for future use” and define a name for the payment source for future reference.

My bank information has changed or I'd like to use another source. How can I update this?

You may add new payment sources or change a source at any time in you LaTAP profile. After logging in and following the "My Profile" link to view your profile, you may view your payment sources at the bottom of the profile screen. To add a new payment source, click the "Add Source" link and enter the correct details. To change a source, click the desired source name from the list of payment sources to view the details for that source. The "Modify" button will allow you to change the details.

Will I get a confirmation number if I make a payment in LaTAP?

Yes. After you complete a payment you will receive a confirmation number for your records.

When must I make a payment for it to be timely? Is there a grace period?

Payments must be submitted with an effective date on or prior to the filing period due date to avoid penalties and interest. There is no grace period.

How long will it take for my payments to process?

Payments must be verified by the bank before they are posted to your account. This process may take a few days. Some payments require a manual review after the bank verifies the funds. In these cases it will take longer for the payment to post to your account. Note that the processing time does not affect the payment effective date. Your payment will post with the effective date that you defined when you submitted the payment, regardless of the amount of time it takes to process the payment.

My payment hasn't posted to my account, but my bank reports the money as transferred. Where did the payment go?

Payments made to a specified filing period are not posted to the specified period until a return is filed and processed for that specified period. Withholding payments made to a specified filing period are not posted to the filing period until 3 days after the due date for the specified filing period.

I think I accidentally made a payment that I didn't want to, can I stop it?

Login to LaTAP as soon as possible and click on the blue "Requests" link. Here you will see a list of requests waiting to be processed, as well as those that have already been processed. If the payment in question is still waiting to be processed or pending, you can click on the blue payment link to open a new screen that will allow you to cancel the request by clicking on the "Withdraw" button. On the requests screen, you can also search for the request by confirmation number.

I made a payment but I'd like to change the amount of it. How do I do that?

You cannot change the amount of a payment using LaTAP. However, if a payment request has not been picked up for processing yet, you can withdraw the payment request and then create a new payment request for the correct amount.

What information will my bank need to process debit payment requests?

Your bank will need the following information in order to process your debit: The Louisiana Department of Revenue identification number---1726000805; our bank---J.P. Morgan Chase and our account name---LDR Electric Funds Account.

How can I register for LaTAP

How long will it take for my transactions to show as completed?

Usually it will take 3-4 days depending on type of transactions.

I forgot my password can you help me?

Taxpayer can click on “Forgot my Password” and after answering question, an E-mail will be sent to him with this information.

I feel my password information has been compromised and would like to change my password, could you help me.

Taxpayer can change their password online. If they require help, LDR agent can reset the password.

I have locked myself out of the system by typing in my password incorrectly too many times.

My bank information has changed, how do I make the corrections?

The taxpayer can make online corrections.

I made an error on my original filing. Can I make corrections? Will I be charged P & I?

Taxpayer can amend any return filed electronically online.

Will I receive paper returns?

Returns will continue to be mailed to the taxpayer unless he request they be stopped.

I would like to amend a return that was filed manually. Can I do this?

Yes, you can amend returns that were filed manually if that return is listed.

If I am having computer problems, can I file and pay my taxes with a paper form?

Yes, You can file your return manually, however, if you are mandated to file Electronic payments you must contact LDR to arrange for Fed Wire or other alternatives to prevent penalty.

If I am having technical difficulties with the LDR Website, whom do I contact and how do I contact them?

If possible use the “Contact Us” function on the Website. If not call LDR for assistance.

Are there any restrictions on when I must file my return for it to be viewed as timely? Do I get a grace period?

No grace period is given for online filers. Returns must be filed online on the due date to prevent penalties or interest.

Due to computer problems my transactions did not go through making my return late. Can I request a Penalty Waiver On-Line?

No. Taxpayer can download a Penalty Waiver request form from our LDR Website. He must complete the form and mail it to the PO Box 201 Baton Rouge LA 70821 address.

If I file online and my transaction is showing “submitted” will I be charged P & I if it is not completed by the due date?

No. If the return is correct and the payment is made no other charges will be made. The date we will use as the mail date is the submitted date.

I got a bill from LDR even though I have already made a payment. Why?

The bill was scheduled to go out before the payment was processed.

I want to discontinue my LaTAP accounts, how do I do this?

LaTAP can be discontinued online.

How do I change my address?

Addresses can be added or changed online using the edit feature.

I don’t remember what my last payment was. Can you help me?

If taxpayer provides enough information to assure that he has the authority to access the account then the LDR agent can give out this information.

I cannot find where to key my Schedule A exemptions & deductions.

All links are in blue letters and are underlined. Look on front page of Sales return in LaTap and you will see Schedule A.

My payment has not been posted to my account and I have my cancelled check or EFT confirmation #.

Payments submitted for a particular filing period are not posted to the account until the associated return has been received and processed. Withholding payments are not posted to the account until 3 days after the due date of the return.

I registered to file in LaTAP and my authorization code was not e-mailed to me. The message said it would be mailed in 3 or 4 days.

If there are was a 0 payment submitted in registration, then the authorization would not be emailed.

Do you have instructions that I can use for LaTAP?

Will I continue to receive paper returns if I start using LaTAP?

Yes, returns will continue to be mailed to you unless you request that they are stopped.

What is the “requests” link in LaTAP?

Every return, payment, or account change that you submit to the Department via LaTAP is referred to as a “request”. You use the “request” link to view a list of all requests waiting to be processed and all completed requests.

I'm having computer problems and can't use LaTAP, can I still file and pay my taxes with a paper form?

Yes, you can file your return on paper. However, if you are mandated to pay electronically, you must contact LDR to arrange for an EFT or other alternatives to prevent any penalties.

I had computer problems and my return ended up being filed late. Can I request a penalty waiver online?

No. You may download a Penalty Waiver request form (R-20128) from the LDR website. It must be completed and mailed to LDR at PO Box 201, Baton Rouge, LA 70821.

I no longer want access my accounts in LaTAP. How do I cancel my access?

After logging into LaTAP, select the “my profile” link to open your LaTAP user profile. On this profile page, use the "Cancel My Online Access" button.
