BATON ROUGE - Revenue Secretary Cynthia Bridges has named West Baton Rouge native Stephen J. "Steve" Hymel as Undersecretary of the Department of Revenue.

"Steve is highly skilled in formulating and managing budgets and directing administrative affairs," Bridges says. "He will help lead the Department''s efforts to assess its needs and objectives and manage implementation of budget policies and procedures."

Prior to his appointment, Hymel was serving as the Assistant Business Manager at the Earl K. Long Hospital campus of Louisiana State University Medical School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and a Masters in Divinity degree from Notre Dame Seminary and Graduate School in New Orleans. A native of West Baton Rouge Parish, Hymel graduated from Holy Family School in Port Allen and Redemptorist High School in Baton Rouge.

During his career, Hymel has served as Budget Analyst for LSU Health Care Services, Finance/Legislative Specialist for the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and Budget Analyst for the Division of Administration (assigned to the Department of Corrections and the Department of Education). Hymel is also a former Catholic priest/pastor, having served at six Baton Rouge area churches from 1990-99.

"I am excited about the opportunity to assist in meeting the challenges that the Department of Revenue faces," Hymel says. "I believe Revenue is a very solid organization that has a tremendous foundation upon which to build an even greater service agency."
