BATON ROUGE – A man and woman from Baker face felony charges related to a stolen Louisiana state income tax refund check, the Louisiana Department of Revenue announced Friday.
Baker police arrested Chequetta Lakeisha James and David Lamont Hayes, of 2290 Manhattan Street in Baker on Wednesday, May 11. The arrests resulted from a joint investigation between the Baker Police Department and the Criminal Investigations Division of the Department of Revenue.
Investigators accuse James and Hayes of stealing the check and cashing it at a store in Baker. They say a clerk at the store identified the suspects.
James and Hayes each face one count of forgery and one count of refund device fraud.
