ATC welcomes new training academy graduates

May 21, 2009

Commissioner Murphy J Painter is proud to welcome nine new enforcement agents to the Louisiana Office of Alcohol & Tobacco Control (ATC) following their graduation from the 2009 ATC Training Academy.

“These new enforcement agents have been given the best training possible in the area of alcohol and tobacco law enforcement,” Commissioner Painter said. “The addition of these new agents will enhance ATC’s ability to maintain current compliance levels among Louisiana’s alcohol and tobacco retail outlets.”

Louisiana maintains one of the most effective law-enforcement programs targeting underage alcohol and tobacco sales in the United States. “With a compliance rate of over 90 percent, retailers in Louisiana know that ATC is serious about keeping alcohol and tobacco out of the hands of young people,” Commissioner Painter said.

The members of the ATC Training Academy’s 2009 graduating class are:

  • Eric Burton Region 1 East Baton Rouge Parish
  • Matthew Mayeux Region 1 Tangipahoa Parish
  • Tracy Hall Jr. Region 2 Jefferson Parish
  • Brandon Monju Region 2 St. Tammany Parish
  • Alexis Parrish Region 3 St. Martin Parish
  • Rebecca Milano Region 4 Rapides Parish
  • Willie Zanders Jr. Region 4 Natchitoches Parish
  • Brandon Fields Region 5 Bossier Parish

In addition to their work at the ATC Training Academy, two of this year’s graduates distinguished themselves by earning special recognition during coursework at the Central Area Regional Training Academy (CARTA)

  • Rebecca Milano Physical Fitness Award
  • Willie Zanders, Jr. CARTA Class President; Award for Academic Excellence

Post-graduation training for ATC's Class of 2009 includes extensive field training exercises in the day-to-day duties of an enforcement agent and regular in-service training and continuing education throughout their careers.

“There are many facets to the job of an ATC enforcement agent,” Commissioner Painter said. “ATC places an emphasis on training and education so that we can always serve the citizens of Louisiana with professionalism and pride.”
