BATON ROUGE – As a result of the agency’s budget reduction plan for Fiscal Year 2010, the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is laying off 29 employees currently assigned to its regional offices throughout the state. The layoffs take effect June 26, 2009.
In addition, LDR will close its Thibodaux regional office effective June 26, 2009. Three employees of that office will be laid off. The remaining staff will work remotely from home, providing field audit services and business assistance with tablet PCs and wireless technology.
Regional office employees subject to the statewide staff reduction are tax analysts who provide walk-in taxpayer assistance services.
Effective Monday, April 20, 2009, taxpayer assistance is available at LDR’s regional offices by appointment only.
These budget reduction measures will save an estimated $1 million per year.
