State TeleFile Booklets Remailed

PIN accidentally omitted by contract printer on recently mailed booklets

January 4, 2001

BATON ROUGE - Revenue Secretary Cynthia Bridges says approximately 84,000 state TeleFile booklets are being reprinted and remailed to taxpayers because the contract printer failed to include the taxpayer''s Personal Identification Number (PIN) when the booklets were mailed during the first week of January.

"The printer is immediately reprinting and remailing corrected booklets at no cost to taxpayers," Bridges says. "The majority of eligible taxpayers should receive a new booklet that includes their PIN number by January 12, the first day taxpayers can use TeleFile this year." Bridges asks taxpayers to discard the first booklet they received.

TeleFile is an option that allows qualified taxpayers to file their individual income tax return by touchtone telephone. "PINs are supplied to each taxpayer for security purposes," Bridges says. "This is a case where there was an error on the printer''s part and the PIN number was omitted from the booklet." She adds that the printer is moving quickly to remedy the situation and taxpayers who wish to TeleFile should experience a minimum of inconvenience.
