Fed/State Electronic Filing Day Scheduled Saturday

Free tax preparation and electronic filing offered by Revenue and IRS

BATON ROUGE - Taxpayers can receive free tax preparation and electronic filing of their federal 1040A, 1040EZ, and their state individual income tax returns this Saturday at sites in eight cities around the state.

The "Fed/State Electronic Filing Day" is being offered by the Louisiana Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, New Orleans, Shreveport, and Thibodaux. Representatives of Revenue and the IRS will be on hand at the sites to assist taxpayers with the preparation of their tax returns, and will electronically file the completed returns free of charge. No appointment is necessary to take advantage of these free services.

Taxpayers seeking assistance with their tax returns will need to bring the following items: a copy of last year''s return (if possible), W-2 forms for the year 2000, notice of interest and dividends (Form 1099), child care information notices, a voided check (for direct deposit purposes), Social Security and retirement notices (Form 1099), Dependent Social Security Cards (or other evidence of number) and date of birth, two forms of identification (one must be with a photo), and Federal Form 8453 (available at the site) signed by the taxpayer (and spouse if filing jointly).

The locations and times for the Fed/State Electronic Filing Day are as follows: Alexandria - Alexandria Mall, 437 Masonic Drive, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Baton Rouge - Mall of Louisiana, 6401 Bluebonnet Boulevard, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Lafayette - Lafayette Public Library, 301 West Congress Street, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Lake Charles - Calcasieu Parish Central Library, 301 West Claude Street, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Monroe - Ouachita Parish Public Library (Main Office), 1800 Stubbs Avenue, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; New Orleans - Lakeside Shopping Center, 3301 Veterans Boulevard (Metairie), 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Shreveport (two sites) - Woodlawn Senior High School, 7340 Wyngate Boulevard, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Shreveport Memorial Wallet Branch Library, 363 Hearne Avenue, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Thibodaux - Terrebonne Public Library (North Houma Branch), 4130 West Park Avenue (Gray), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
