April 1, 2005

NEW ORLEANS- The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is providing free electronic filing of Federal and Louisiana tax returns at the 2nd Annual Super Tax Day at the Louisiana Superdome on Friday, April 15, 2005.

Assistance will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. No appointments are necessary and taxpayers will be served on a first-come, first served basis. The program is available for low to moderate income taxpayers who file basic individual income tax returns. Volunteer representatives will be on site to assist taxpayers with preparation of their federal 1040A and 1040 EZ tax returns, as well as the Louisiana IT 540 return.

In addition to filing assistance, taxpayers will have an opportunity to meet with other government agencies and private organizations for information on homeownership, employment, and other services.

Cynthia Bridges, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Revenue says, “We are excited to work with the IRS and our other partners to offer this service to our customers. I hope that those who have not filed will come out and take advantage of this great program.” Bridges also reminds taxpayers to investigate their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can provide up to $4,000.00 on their federal income tax return.

All taxpayers must bring all W-2’s, 1099’s, Social Security cards of dependants, and a copy of last year’s tax return if available.

Super Tax Day will be held at the Southwest Quadrant, Room 15 in the Louisiana Superdome (Enter at Gate F). Discounted parking at $4.00 will be available in Lot 5 in the Southwest garage.
